Shoe mold ( 1/4 round) does NOT hold the floor down it only finishes off the expansion gap that must be around any solid or immovable object, Glue is NEVER use on a floating floor system since it is meant to move .. The under layment is never to be used as a "fill" or to level the flooring. It is there only to allow the movement and to help keep the flooring a bit quieter.
Start with either the longest sight line or the best look for the particular room. Your choice since it is not structural..
Cut and lock ends in the 1 st row with spacers being used for a gap.
A second person is very helpful for the next row, again pre cut this row w/o locking into place..Carefully set this row all at once at a 45 degree angle int the groove of the 1 st row. Pushing in and pressing it in, and press down and in set this row. Using a tapping block , tap this row in..And I d recommend you pick up an installation kit. ( 20 $ wherever laminate is sold.)
Do the same with the 3rd row. After that , it ll stay pretty much in place and you can do 1 board at a time or continue with whole rows, your choice.
End cuts never to be less than 12 " and no joints closer 6 ".
I ve attended several installation classes and installed a few 100,000 s/f..
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
The secret is after laying the floor You put in the molding. It is the molding that you put down around the room to finish off the look. That molding is what holds the floor without nails. I saw this done on a recent show from HGTV. Good luck.
You can always go to hgtv.com and find out how to do this.
The true secret, sorry to contradict ,but you should first put down a layer of insulation material, this will help to level the floor and stop a lot of noise coming from the finished floor. Then plan your start and finish points to limit the amount of cuts, then slip the planks into place with a little glue on the edges"absolutely essential"then finish the edges with a small bead or "fillet" Walla! a professional job.
The instructions should call for a small foam pad underlayment.Leave a 1/4" space between all walls. Before starting make sure you check the lay out of the floor so you don’t end up with any real small pieces. You don’t want a 1" piece in front of a door way etc. Then install 1/4 Round all around the base when finished.Try and start on a long straight wall.have fun and get some knee pads
